Itinerary:

Mon, Sep 16th: JFK/Catania

Depart on your overnight flight to Catania. Dinner served in flight.

Tue, Sep 17th: Rome/Catania/Siracusa

Upon arrival in Rome, we will be met by our guide, Helga Ruhmann, and together we will fly to Catania. Upon arrival in Catania, we will be met by our driver and transferred to Siracusa. The remainder of the day is free.

Wed, Sep 18th: Siracusa

This morning we visit the Basilica of Madonna delle Lacrime which holds the plaque of Our Lady of the Tears. From August 29th to September 1st,  1953, a plaster plaque of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, placed over the headboard of the bed of a young couple, Angelo Iannuso and Antonina Giusto, shed human tears. The phenomena took place inside and outside of the house. Many, saw, touched, gathered and tasted the salt of those tears.

Thu, Sep 19th: Siracusa/Valley of the Temples/Taormina

Morning departure to Agrigento to visit the Valley of the Temples. The archaeological area known as the Valley of the Temples is one of the most important archeological sites in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. Along a long rocky scarp, chosen as the southern limit of the town, are sited the great temples of ancient Akragas.

Fri. Sep 20th: Taormina/Cosenza

This morning, we are transferred to the upper city of Taormina where we will be free to have lunch, on our own, walk around the city and just enjoy the views of Mount Etna. Taormina is a jet set town, and this is evident in the local boutiques and jewelry shops. Take time to visit the Greek Theatre.

Sat, Sep 21st: Cosenza/Pietrelcina/San Giovanni Rotondo

Morning departure to San Giovanni Rotondo. Enroute, we stop at Pietrelcina, birthplace of Padre Pio. We visit Padre Pio’s home, the Church of Santa Anna, where he was baptized, and we have Mass at Santa Maria degli Angeli. Next, we stop at Piana Romana to visit the place where Padre Pio received the invisible stigmata. After Mass and our visit, we continue to San Giovanni Rotondo.

Sun, Sep 22nd: San Giovanni Rotondo/St. Michael’s Cave

This morning we depart to Mount Sant’Angelo where we will have Mass at the Celestial Basilica of Saint Michael and visit the Cave where Saint Michael the Archangel appeared. Padre Pio often sent people there when they came to visit him.

Mon, Sep 23rd: Our Day with Padre Pio

Today is the Feast Day of Padre Pio. We spend our day following the program of the Basilica for Padre Pio.

Tue, Sep 24th: San Giovanni Rotondo/Rome

Morning departure to Rome. Upon arrival in Rome, the remainder of the day is free.

Wed, Sep 25th: Rome Tour

This morning we have a “Tour of the Basilicas of Rome” – Saint Peters’, Saint Mary Major and Saint Paul Outside the Walls. We also see the Roman Forum, the Coliseum and the Monument to Victor Emmanuel, Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain.

Thu, Sep 26th: Rome/USA

Morning departure to Rome airport for our return flight to the USA.
